Unique winter activities away from the slopes

Along with perfectly groomed ski slopes and marked cross-country skiing trails, winter romantics will be enchanted in and around Altenmarkt-Zauchensee when they experience winter hiking, Nordic walking, or winter horseback riding on more than 30 well-maintained winter hiking paths as well as snowshoeing and alpine tours through pristine landscape of glistening winter dreams. It’s always fun to participate in ice skating, ice stock, and tobogganing.

Winter Hiking, Nordic Walking, and Snowshoeing

Experience the new, trendy sport of snowshoeing We head up the Schwemmbergstrasse, at the main sign for the country lore path making a left towards the Reitlehenalm, and after the Köpferbauer farm we again follow signs for the country lore path. We then go from the Reitlehenalm through the forest to the Habersatt mountain inn, and from here, if snow conditions allow, we can return to the valley on a sled. We will gladly give you information on additional snowshoe hikes on the Rossbrand or the Südwiener Hütte.

Tobogganing

The natural toboggan run on the Hochbifang (www.bifeishuette.at) starts at an elevation of 1,300 m. It leads through the woods, has slight curves, is always well-maintained, and is even lit up at night.
The toboggan run on the Schwemmberg is 3.5 km long. If you don’t have your own sled, you can rent one. And where can you warm up before or after? Of course, in one of the cozy huts.

Sleighs and Horseback Rides

Whether in the saddle or on a sleigh, the coldest season of the year promises pure romance for all those in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee who want to get away from the slopes and cross-country skiing trails and take a chance on something different, for example, the well-maintained winter horseback riding trails.

You can enjoy the dreamy, wintery countryside rather comfortably and cozily on a romantic sleigh ride to the wonderful Zauchtal or to one of the meadows in Filzmoos. We will gladly reserve a sleigh ride for you .

Ice Skating

In Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, there are 2 ice skating areas. A romantic setting at an elevation of 1,350 m on the frozen Zauchensee and a more sporty setting on the rink in the center of Altenmarkt .

Ski Touring

Ski touring is the ultimate discipline in the world of alpine skiing. A unique winter experience away from the ski slopes awaits you. Enjoy the wonderful panorama of the mountains around Altenmarkt and experience the feeling of total freedom on a ski tour.
